Dun Mountain Trail, Coppermine ;

As you'll probably know there was a significant slip on the Dun Mountain Trail a few months ago that closed the trail. Although not fixed permanently Nelson City Council has done some work so that the Dun Mountain Trail is now rideable again.

Here's what the Council has to say:

After a landslip between Four Corners and Third house forced a closure to the Dun Mountain Trail, a temporary solution to reopen the popular Trail is now complete.

The Brook Waimarama Sanctuary Trust and the Council are now working together on a more permanent fix to reinstate the trail.

The formation of a temporary access above the slip for cyclists and pedestrians began last week, and after being inspected by a Geotechnical Engineer, it has been opened to the public.

As the slip is actively moving, a full reinstatement of the Dun trail is expected to take several months due to the need for Geotechnical design, Resource Consent, and construction works.

Council would like to thank the public for their patience and
Nelmac staff for their efforts to re-open the track.

We'll keep you updated as work on a long term solution progresses - but in the meantime this is good news. The Dun Mountain Trail is a firm favourite at this time of year, especially on wet weekends.

See you out there.
